Webster Groves Real Estate Information

One of the larger suburbs in the St. Louis region, Webster Groves, Missouri, is in the inner ring of suburbs, located on almost six square miles of land within St. Louis County. The city was home to a population of almost 25,000 at the time of the 2000 census, and its residents had a median annual household income of just over $60,500. It is only about 10 miles west of downtown St. Louis.

The city was originally home to the Missouri, Osage Nation and Dakota Native Americans. It was once part of the French Louisiana Territory and was also at one time part of Spanish land. The city developed as a suburb because it was located along the Pacific Railroad line, which brought visitors and passers-by. It was originally five separate communities on the railroad line that eventually all merged into one: Webster, Old Orchard, Webster Park, Tuxedo Park and Selma.

The city is home to many attractions, such as the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Westborough Country Club, Algonquin Golf Course, Action Park In-Line Skating Rink and Skate Park, the Webster Groves Ice Arena and 15 parks. WebsterGroves's Community Center includes an aquatic center with four pools, a fitness center and a recreational center.

Children who live here attend schools in the public Webster Groves School District. Colleges in the city include Webster University and the Eden Theological Seminary. There are several historical locations, such as the Charles W. Ferguson House, theGorlock Building and the Hawken House. The city hosts an annual Fourth of July parade and carnival, which is its signature event of the year. There is also an annual Turkey Day game between area high school football teams and a Community Days celebration.
