Festus Real Estate Information

Festus is a relatively small community found in the central eastern portion of the Show Me State, Missouri. Festus real estate is a mixture of suburban, rural, residential, and agricultural, due to the community's location between unincorporated areas and the Saint Louis Metropolitan Area. Festus is technically considered a city of Missouri, and reported a population of approximately eleven thousand two hundred residents according to census figures released in the year two thousand and six. This would represent a significant pattern of growth if these estimates are correct, since the last comprehensive statistics released by the census department in the year two thousand reported a population of less than ten thousand persons. Festus covers a total area of about four and four fifths square miles, although this does not include any large bodies of water.

Festus is often considered jointly along with neighboring Crystal City as the “Twin Cities”, an allusion perhaps to the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul in the state of Minnesota. The area which is modern day Festus was the territory of the Dakota tribe of Native Americans for thousands of years before the arrival of European American explorers or settlers, who did not arrive in any substantial numbers until after the Louisiana Purchase. The first American settler, Charley Conners, arrived in the year eighteen three, although the community of Festus did not take shape just yet. Festus, which was originally known as Limitville and later Tanglefoot, was officially incorporated and given a biblical name during the year eighteen eighty eight.

The educational needs of the residents of Festus properties are met by a number of public and private institutions on the secondary and primary levels. These include the schools of the Festus R-VI School District and Jefferson R-VII School District, as well as Saint Pius X High School, Our Lady Catholic School, and the Twin City Christian Academy. The city of Festus includes a total of two hundred and eighteen acres of open green space including a bird sanctuary, sports fields, and several parks. Festus also prides itself on having recently installed a new sewage treatment plant, levee, and drinking water plant.
