Hillsboro Real Estate Information

Hillsboro is a relatively small community found in the central eastern portion of the Show Me State, Missouri. Hillsboro has a population of approximately one thousand seven hundred residents, according to census statistics published in the year two thousand. There is a high probability that this figure has changed substantially in the last nine years, however, especially considering that the Saint Louis Metropolitan Area has been growing at a rapid pace in recent years. Hillsboro real estate is spread over a total area of a little less than two and a half square miles, giving Hillsboro a population density of just over seven hundred persons per square mile. Hillsboro is considered a part of Jefferson County, and in fact serves as the county seat of Jefferson County.

Hillsboro takes its name from the English version of the Italian word Monticello, which was the home of President Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States. The original plan of the founders of Hillsboro was to actually call the community Monticello, but that idea proved to be unworkable following the realization that a town in Lewis County had already taken the name. The area which is now considered Hillsboro was originally inhabited by Dakota Sioux Indians, although their influence rapidly fell after the Louisiana Purchase and the War of 1812. American settlers began to arrive in large numbers towards the beginning of the nineteenth century, although Hillsboro properties were never as popular as those in Saint Louis.

Hillsboro is almost exclusively homogeneous, a fact which is unusual considering the relatively low levels of per capita and median family income in the area. Notable annual events in Hillsboro include an Easter Egg Hunt, a Culinary Lunch, an Armed Forces Ceremony, the Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament, the Hillsboro Homecoming and Festival, a Christmas Parade, and a Fish Fry. The educational needs of Hillsboro are met by a number of private and public institutions, including Hillsboro High School, Hillsboro Junior High School, Hillsboro Primary School, and Hillsboro Elementary School. Recreational sites include Hillsboro City Park, Washington State Park, and the Sunnyhill Adventures Center.
