A small, inner-ring suburb of St. Louis, the city of Brentwood, Missouri, is located within the confines of St. Louis County. The city was home to a population of nearly 8,000 as of figures for the 2000 census, and it makes up an area of two square miles, all of which is land. The community was originally settled in 1804 by Louis J. Bompart. The city incorporated in 1919 to stop encroaching annexation from the neighboring city, Maplewood. Brentwood lies conveniently located just south of Clayton, St. Louis County's county seat, and just a mile and a half west of St. Louis -- making it just minutes from popular attractions, shopping and retail areas, dining options and nightlife. The city is just off of interstates 64, 40 and 170, offering residents convenient on-ramp access to surrounding areas, and theMaplewood MetroLink station is just minutes away, offering access into downtown St. Louis.

The city is known as the city of warmth for its friendly community atmosphere, and it celebrates its heritage each year in September with a carnival, parade and more during theBrentwood Days festival. It is home to its own Brentwood Park, and its most popular destination could well be considered the Brentwood Ice Arena, where ice skating and hockey are popular pastimes. Residents living here will find themselves just south of the St. Louis Galleria and just east of OldWarson Country Club. Additionally, for medical services, Brentwood is just a few miles from the SSM St Mary's Health Center.

Students living here attend the Brentwood School District, which is made up of two elementary schools, a middle school and Brentwood High School. There are also a couple of alternatives, with two private schools: St. Mary Magdalen and Immacolata. The city's Brentwood Public Library services residents, and the Brentwood Historical Society stationed in the historic Barlow house.
