Sunset Hills Real Estate Information

A midsized suburban community, Sunset Hills, Missouri, lies within the greater St. Louis metropolitan region. The community makes up an area of about nine square miles within St. Louis County and it was home to a population of around 8,500 at the time of the 2000 census. Residents here have a median annual household income of about $70,000, putting the community above state averages. Sunset Hills was incorporated in 1957.

Sunset Hills is home to more than 70 acres of parkland, including an outdoor sculpture garden in Laumeier Sculpture Park, which has rotating indoor exhibits and a number of sculptures outside. There is also Watson Trail Park, which was dedicated in 1979 and named after a wagon trail that passed through the community and is home to the parks offices, a nine-hold disc golf course, four tennis courts, basketball courts, fishing ponds, sand volleyball courts and the Watson Trail Park Pool. Other park areas includeLynstone Park, the Claire Gempp Davidson Memorial Conservation Area, Minnie Ha Ha Park and the Sunset Hills Athletic Fields. The community sponsors annual events like a drive-in movie and a Halloween hayride.

Children living in Sunset Hills are assigned to the Kirkwood and Lindbergh school districts, but there are also several private school providing alternative options, including the Thomas Jefferson School, a boarding school for grades 7-12, and K-8 St. Justin the Martyr School. Just three miles away are South County Technical School, Vatterott College and Meramec Community College. Businesses in the community include five financial institutions, 300 service companies, 50 manufacturing companies, 100 retail companies and 30 office buildings and two industrial parks.
